Maverick waves.

I’m from the land of big waves, maverick waves. I’m from Half Moon Bay, CA. During winter, these waves can rise as tall as a 9 story building. My first memories are of watching the “Fonzies” out in the water. To my brother and I there was little difference between a black wetsuit and Fonzie’s black leather coat, both were as cool as it gets.

We’ve all been riding bigger waves through the rising and the falling of these great tides. The moon hasn’t been this close to our planet in 18 years, causing a deeper connection to the lunar power over our emotional waves. Japan’s tsunami raised the vibration of both fear and love, these emotions have been hitting our entire planet with great force ever since, and the Supermoon lit up the night that shifted us out of winter and into spring. In the midst of it all, creativity, intuition, transformation, and expansion are gaining power. These forces can be beautiful, but any acceleration in growth can also cause pain.

In the vinyasa of our life’s practice, it is more important than ever to choose intention, focus, and pace thoughtfully. If we’re all growing, changing, and realigning we have to understand that everyone requires space to do their work and that we’re all more sensitive than ever. We are the collective. When we support others, we’re supporting the whole, which also includes the Self. Let’s cut each other a lot of slack right now, listen, watch, and hopefully our understanding will be part of a communal growth of consciousness. We’re being asked to apply the tried and true tools of yoga to everyday life. Now is the time. This is our practice. One love.

Mexico Memorial Week, May 28-June 4, 2011.

We still have room for our Memorial Week retreat. The group that’s forming is amazing! We have 12 participants signed up so far, which still leaves room for 8. Luis will be co-hosting with me again and really adds a lightness, helps out with my “cave girl” Spanish and makes a wicked guacamole. I’d love for you to share in the bliss that’s manifesting. The ocean is warm and clear, brilliant blue sky, and it’s the perfect jump start to summer! Our retreat falls mostly inJune, which is off-season so you’ll save substantially on accommodations. If you can’t join us for the entire retreat, let me know and we can customize a package just for you.

Book airfare from Seattle to Puerto Vallarta through http://www.kayak.com. Try to arrive and depart around 3pm so that we can share ground transport. I’ll help you find accommodations through http://sayulitalife.com/ and pair you up with other travelers if you’re looking to share. Let’s flow in the sun’s light to the rhythm of the surf! It brings out the best in everything…

Yoga for Hope, July 9, 2011.

The 3rd annual Yoga for Hope event will take place at a new location, underneath the Space Needle at the Seattle Center. In an effort to bring the spirit of health and community together, four of Seattle’s renowned yoga instructors will guide participants through a 90 minutes class. All proceeds from the event go to benefit research, treatment and education programs at City of Hope, one of the nation’s leading centers for cancer treatment and research.

Last year the event raised over $30,000 with more than 300 participants. We are looking to go above and beyond this year! We are also excited to announce Steve Gold as our special musical guest! Come experience where the Power of Hope meets the Power of Yoga. Details here! http://nationalevents.cityofhope.org/site/TR?fr_id=1500&pg=entry

1st Annual NW YogaFest August 5-7, 2011.

Our Northwest community will be making a road-trip at the height of summer to Idaho. Details are still manifesting! This will be an entire weekend of yoga in all of its beautiful permutations, creating community, communing with nature, camping, mountain biking, yoga clothing swap, vegetarian food, and swimming, all for for just $150. It looks like we’ll have a dozen teachers offering Ashtanga, Prana Flow, Power Flow, AcroYoga, Thai Massage, Bhakti Yoga, Yoga Trance Dance, Meditation, Ayurveda, Conscious Cooking Classes, Lakshmi Puja, and much more! For details, please visit the rough sketch of the event athttp://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e3k9w2z67c5185b5&llr=94jvxteab.

Women’s Whidbey Retreat, August 19-21, 2011.

Our last immersion on Whidbey was simply divine. It was the first time we spontaneously created a women-only retreat. It turned out to be a wonderful opportunity to shift into the space and emotion of the lunar tide. I’ve booked the Yoga Lodge August 19-21, 2011 and am working on adding a shamanic component to the weekend’s offerings. I’ve had the best meditations of my life at the Lodge and want to offer more tools that incorporate the spirit of that sacred land. Reserve your space now, as this retreat will sell out quickly.

Bali airfare dropped to $1250, thank you Ganesha!

Our elephant headed friend has brought Bali’s distant land closer to our reach. I can still appreciate that $1250 is a great sum of money, but it’s only $70 for each hour you’re in the air. We’ll learn how to truly rock a sarong, eat fresh, healthy, flavorful foods, meet healers, make offerings, get massages, visit temples, smell sweetness, listen to the chorus of the ocean, rice paddies, musicians, twice daily yoga and so much more! Get in touch with our travel agent Wendy, she can customize your travel and answer all your questions (831)427-5000. She’s in her office in Santa Cruz, CA Tue/Wed/Fri/Sat 9:30-3:30pm. Full itinerary and registration can be found here:http://www.danutours.com/bali_sacred_arts_purification_retreat_with_jennifer_isaacson.html

Private individualized practice space.

Are you still unsure of yourself in a headstand in the middle of the room? Shoulders or wrists giving you pain? Want a deeper understanding of the energetics and meditation? Want to get that asana in order before bikini season? Returning to your mat after hiatus? Not sure how to modify your practice because of pregnancy? Have someone in your life that’s just too shy to go to a public class? Just 3 private sessions can completely refresh or establish your approach! Let me know if you’re interested in 3 one-hour sessions for $150.

All love. All ways. All together.

Beloved,

Three is a powerful number. Throughout yoga, trinities are consistent tripods of stability. The connection of mind, body and spirit is the essence of our yogic practices and why they work to restore balance. The first year we created Yoga for Hope, we wrapped our minds around the event and birthed a new way to raise funds for City of Hope. The second year, we got the body of our community together and led over 300 of Seattle’s yogis through a class taught by 9 of Seattle’s instructors. San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix, and Philadelphia have also wrapped their arms around Yoga for Hope and created events in their cities making it responsible for raising over $140,000. This is our third year and it’s all about spirit. We’re offering a soulful class taught by Cosetta, Dora, Jenniferlyn, and myself, with Steve Gold & friends playing live music, flowing on natural grass, facing Seattle Center’s International Fountain. In whatever way you are able to be present on July 9, let’s offer our dedication, community, and honor everyone in our lives that has been touched by cancer, HIV, and other mind/body/spirit threatening illnesses.

Gratitude to everyone who has participated in any aspect of Yoga for Hope’s past, present and future! If you’d like to join me on TEAM UYS, please do so through this link: http://nationalevents.cityofhope.org/site/TR?pg=teamlist&fr_id=1500. We’ll be representing in our TEAM UYS T’s, so get on board so we can get your order in! If you have any questions, contact our team captain Jessica at meekjess77@gmail.com.

Arriving home from the 7th retreat I’ve hosted in Sayulita, Mexico I’ve come to realize I’m only just beginning to know this ever evolving village. Reconstruction after their rainiest season in 80 years forced many of Sayulita’s businesses to move, close, or remodel. Traffic continued to be diverted as the town’s main bridge is still under construction turning quiet side streets into dusty thoroughfares. Even our yoga studio received a major remodel, new roof and bathroom. I found myself wanting Sayulita to remain just as I’d left it 9 months ago, only to realize that I’d done some major growing and remapping as well. My last trip to Mexico in May was incredibly tough. I arrived overworked, stressed and incredibly sad. While snorkeling, I was able to observe the ocean’s flow, constant shifts, and natural order. It was all the reminding I needed of life’s most simple truth. Breathe, flow, and find balance in the midst of change. Upon my return home I continued to meditate and surrender my need to control. This brought a whole new tide into my life. One of the major waves is Luis. Our partnership has changed my view dramatically in the last 9 months. In the midst of change Sayulita is growing, thriving and evolving… and so am I!

Sayulita’s March retreat was an amazing success. Not only did I host my largest retreat (with Luis’ help), but our group of 20 had some pretty magical experiences. We uncovered long lost territory (touching toes), revealed new summits (head standing), made new friends (whales, dolphin, sting rays, and blue footed boobies thanks to Josue), rode waves (thanks to Gato), supported local indigenous artists (thanks to Andreas), and discovered the way to reconnect to Self by being present with nature and each other. Writing these words to you helps to put beautiful and practical names to the magic of our shared experience. Thank you for allowing our magic to weave into yours!

Luis and I stayed on for a few more days in order to absorb and research. We were invited onto Josue’s ranch in the jungle that supports a very small self-sustaining community. They’re entirely off the grid, powered by solar energy, well water, downed coconut trees that now serve as a palapa home, goats, gardens, outdoor shower, kitchen, and outhouse. This is my version of heaven. Our visit began with Josue having us hop into the back of his pick up truck. Through town, across streams, and into the jungle we rode Mexican style with the wind whipping through our hair. While the catch of the day cooked over the open fire we journeyed up to Monkey Mountain. Following Josue up the technical terrain was much like trying to keep up with a billy goat. Just when you thought you’d lost the trail or was it the rivers of sweat clouding my vision? Josue would reappear fresh, dry, and smiling at our approach. An hour of climbing later, we arrived at the summit just in time for the sun to set before our eyes. Out of Josue’s backpack appeared cold beers, incense, tea and my sweater. All that extra weight never seemed to slow him down! After watching the elements of fire, earth, and water collide we made our descent. Under a new moon and slightly overcast skies I asked Josue several questions of practicality. “Did you grab any extra headlamps? Are we going down the same way we came up? Do you have any water?” He just smiles. We kept walking down, or in Josue’s case, jog/slide/leaping down. As night fell, my eyes adjusted. So many shades of grey, sounds, tactal awareness and my core seemed to light up the path… but then there were literal lights coming out of the darkness. Just like the film Avatar, there were fire flies swarming the jungle and smaller bugs dwelling in any dampened earth. They’d radiate light, go dim, and light up again. Not only did they line the dry riverbed that served as our path, but provided ever changing patterns and constellations. I found myself thanking Josue over and over again. All he said was, “I knew you’d appreciate it.” I sent out my prayers of gratitude to the universe for literally lighting up my path in such a beautiful way.

We returned to our friends that were tending to the fire, dinner, and music. We were served a creamy lobster stew over a bed of rice. Sitting around the fire, watching my friend’s faces flicker in the night I continued to send out my thanks and praises for a life that feels like a dream. Josue and I agreed that this hike needs to be part of our next retreat… and Memorial Week seems like the right time. I cannot wait to share the magic of Monkey Mountain with fellow adventurers!
